What is that? Often times inside the gym, people wonder and ask what’s the pen and pad for. My initial response was that I have a new training program. And I didn’t want to miss a single exercise, set, nor rep. That was my favorite excuse.
I used to be ashamed of bringing a pen and pad inside the gym. I caught myself alot of times secretly jotting down the rep and weight after every set I do. I wasn’t comfortable with the feeling at all. Despite it, I still persisited to keep a journal.
Why do you do that? Personally, I have more than a couple of reasons why I bring a journal with me.
Initially, I wouldn’t want to miss nor forget anything on my program. Same for my diet and supplementation.
Another thing is I’m able to track my progress. You can call it keeping score. On succeeding training days I would always aim to surpass what I did on my previous workouts. Sure enough it helps. It some how gives you the motivation to better yourself.
Lastly, you can write your thoughts about what you’re doing. It can almost be about anything. The factors that affect your workouts. Your bodybuilding goals. Your thoughts about your program.
These are just examples, however I consider them important. I set aside an ample amount of leaves for this section in my journal.
Weird? A friend of mine had a the opportunity of browsing along my notes. As he was running through the pages, his facial expression began changing. From curiousity, he began smiling. Then a short laugh. Smiled again, and laughed again. He looked at me and said that what I was doing cool. I didn’t know if I was to take cool as a compliment or what-not.
Either way, I didn’t matter much to me. I knew that I was getting alot out of it. The benefits of keeping a journal handy are tremendous.
YOU! If you are serious about what you’re doing and achieving your goals, it’s worth putting it on paper. It’s always better to have a destination than to just go around in circles. Give it a try and find out for yourself.
If you have used or is using a journal, you can write to me and share your experiences with me and others. What sort of difference has it given you?
